It looks certain now that Kim Kardashian won't be seen sashaying down the streets of her short-term husband's hometown or any other city in Minnesota. According to several sources, including Yahoo News, Kris Humphries has hired a divorce lawyer.

The marriage was the fodder of every late-night talk show, every celebrity blog, and, well, just about everyone. But no matter how poorly thought out the marriage seemed to be, Kardashian and Humphries did actually plan ahead in one respect: They signed a prenuptial agreement. This should make the divorce settlement much quicker and easier, allowing Humphries to go back to focusing on his pro basketball career and the NBA lockout, and Kardashian to go on ... being a Kardashian.

Kardashian reportedly asked Humphries to pay his own lawyer fees -- likely not a hardship for the New Jersey Nets player. According to Yahoo, she also asked the court to reject any spousal support requests by Humphries. Reports indicate that Humphries wants the proceedings to be as amicable as possible, so he's not likely to put up a fight.

So what if you and your parting spouse aren't multimillionaires? You don't have to be outrageously wealthy to consider a prenup. You may not have as many assets as a celebrity couple, but when the time comes to split up the dishes, the dog and the house, matters can be just as contentious.

Most couples about to marry don't intend to break up 72 days later, as Kardashian and Humphries did. Buttwo months or 20 years down the road, if you do opt for a divorce, you and your spouse will have to decide who will walk away with what. Whether it's at the beginning of your marriage or at the end, an attorney specializing in divorce can help you decide the best way to do that.
