Last week we talked about Jon Cryer of "Two and a Half Men" and child support issues he was facing. An appellate court ruled that he had to continue to pay child support to his former wife even though Cryer has custody of the former couple's child. This week we continue to talk about Hollywood couples and family law by discussing a custody settlement involving Mel Gibson, his former girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva and their 2-year-old daughter.
Last week the Oscar award winning actor and his former girlfriend showed up at a Los Angeles County Superior Court. The former pair attended family court with their respective attorneys and informed the court that they reached a settlement regarding child support and child custody issues dealing with their 2-year-old daughter, Lucia.
According to the settlement, Oksana will be allowed to live in Mel Gibson's Sherman Oaks, California house until Lucia turns age 18. When Lucia turns 18, the house will be sold and the proceeds from the sale will be put into a trust dedicated to Lucia. Gibson also agreed to pay Oksana $750,000 over three installments. The first installment was supposed to be paid after the settlement was signed. The second installment is to be paid in September 2013, and the final payment is slated to occur in September 2016.
The settlement also outlines that Gibson and Oksana will share joint legal and physical custody of their 2-year-old daughter.
The judge who approved the settlement warned Gibson and Oksana that they could not attempt to make money over their fallout or the settlement would be void. For example, neither individual is allowed to make a show about their raucous break-up.
Both individuals agreed to the terms of the settlement and did not speak to the media after the court hearing.
